Why Background Checks?

Everyday, we come in contact with strangers, such as the person delivering office supplies to our places of business and the person who serves us at a restaurant. Most of them have minimal effect on our lives and are forgotten as soon as our transactions with them conclude. However, every once in a while, these people may begin to play a greater role in our lives. They may be prospective employees or even casual romantic relationships that we want to transition into deeper ones. Unfortunately, you have only to watch the news or read the paper to know that not everyone is honest and at worst may even be a form of predator. It is because of this that background checks have become a big business. People want and need to know exactly who it is that they are dealing with.

Let's not elaborate on the all too often horror stories we all have read in the Media, which continues to grow with each passing day.  One can argue that there are people who have no prior Criminal History and commit crimes, and they do.  On the other side of this arugment is the fact that an Individual with a prior Criminal History is a very high risk of re-offending.  This is even more prevalent in Sexual Predators. 

The Recividism rate of of people U.S.Prisons is said to be between 60% - 80% depending where you get your information.  It's very high and the reality is that anyone who is prosecuted and found guilty of crimes less than 1st Degree Capital Murder are going to be released back into their respective Communities sooner or later.

Background Checks are here and will increase for everyone in every Industry in our Country.  A Background Check is one of many preventive step we can take to deter or detect a potential castastrophic event.  No different than having a yearly checkup with your Doctor to prevent and detect something that is wrong before it happens, and then it's too late.   

Human Behavior can't be predicted, but someones pattern of prior behavior is a strong indicator of their future behavior.  That being said, there are people who change their behaviors and never re-offend again and lead productive lives. They should be given consideration when they have paid their debt for their mistakes.  But this example does not apply specifically to Sexual Predators, where there is documented evidence that he/she will re-offend when the opportunity exists, and only stop when they are once again caught and removed from Society.
